Sven Co-Op, for those unaware, is a 17 year-old co-op-focussed Half-Life mod that lets you play Valve’s seminal FPS with friends. It’s only now heading to Steam - where it’ll come free-of-charge, even if you don’t already own the original Half-Life - and today released an official trailer for its full release version 5.0. Since gracing the scene way back in 1999, Sven Co-Op has enjoyed somewhat of a cult following in its intervening years - much similar to era cousins Action Quake 2, The Specialists, and Action Half-Life. In 2013, aware of the mod’s enduring following, Valve gave the tireless Sven Co-Op team their blessing to develop the mod into a full release on Steam, and also granted them access to their GoldSrc engine - the very one that powers Half-Life itself. By August last year, the mod - that lets you fight against computer-controlled baddies alongside a pal, or to play through Gordon Freeman’s trip to Black Mesa with a few right-hand buddies - had entered closed beta testing. Today, after a few months of relative silence, the Sven Co-Op crew dropped an official trailer and announced that their long-awaited co-operative slant on Half-Life will be “available soon for free on Steam.” Here it is in its two minutes of glory: We hope you will enjoy this 2 minute introduction to our game, which also includes footage of some new maps and features,' reads a post from Nih on the game's website. 'Also featured: Our new main menu theme by Pavel_Perepelitsa! The video itself was created by Mr. Mazur. Since we still get a lot of questions about this: Remember, Sven Co-op 5.0 will be available for free on Steam, even if you don't own Half-Life 1. And this includes our Half-Life Singleplayer conversion. 'That is all for now. Expect more media and information about 5.0 in the near future! As a side note, the first version of Sven Co-op was released on January 19th, 1999... That means SC's 17th birthday is in just 7 days! Wow! Who knew Sven Co-op was so old, huh? I don't know about all of you guys, but here on the Sven Co-op team we will be celebrating that day!'
Sven Co-op is a mod for Half-Life created by SC Team. It allows you to play Half-Life with friends! Players fight computer-controlled monsters through the original Half-Life storyline or hundreds of available co-operative scenarios. Also includes a plethora of new weapons, enemies, visuals and gameplay systems. Customization features allow each map to use its own unique weapons and enemies.
How to install: Mod has it’s own installer.

Sven Co-op is the ultimate Social mod, ideal for LAN parties or for playing with small groups of friends. There is a lack of competitiveness between players; you'll spend your time enjoying yourself rather than trying to beat the top scorer. Participants tend to build strong bonds with others, as they are required to work together and heal each other, this has been shown through the strong community.
What do you need to know about free software?
For all you elusive PC Co-optimus fans out there, we have a rare bit of news especially for you this time: Valve's Steam service will be hosting Half-Life 2 mods for free, and will be tacking on Steamworks support for each, including stat tracking and automatic updates.
Among the first five hosted mods available starting next week is Synergy, the Half-Life 2 co-op mod. Play the award-winning campaign with friends!

As a part of our continuing efforts to support the MOD community, we will begin hosting selected MODs directly on Steam starting next week. The first five MODs to ship on steam will be Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic. As always, owners of any Source game will be able to download and play all of these MODs for free. Once installed, these MODs will appear in your 'My Games' list and will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, these MODs now take advantage of Steamworks, which provides stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community. We're excited to see MOD developers get wider recognition for the hard work they have done, and we hope to support more MOD teams in the future. Watch for the official release next week!

I hope I've chosen the right subreddit. This actually related more to HL than GMod, and most of HL fans own Garry's Mod (right?)
So, I'm developing the Half-Life Co-op gamemode for Garry's Mod. Of course, there are already plenty of good co-op mods for Half-Life, BUT:
- It uses Source Engine
- Maps are expanded as much as possible
- Possibility to play with other Garry's Mod addons (player models, weapons, scripts, effects, etc)
- Subtitles for all scripted scenes
- Multi-language (two languages available atm)
- Some unique gameplay features
Steam
- You can create P2P server and play with friends any time, without port forwarding
